How to Clean Your Floor in Winter

Floors, especially hardwood take a beating from salt, and sand throughout the winter months. Little feet and dog paws also contribute to the haze of dirt you see on the floor.
It is quite a task to keep your floors clean in winter and here are a few tips:
Take off shoes and boots when entering the house.
Wipe off the paws of your dogs and cats in you can catch them.Keep a towel by the back door.
Sweep your floor at least twice a day.
Spot clean with hot water any spots that are visible.
Give your floor a good washing once a week with hot water and a few drops of dish soap or vinegar. I use vinegar on my floors because it disinfects as well.
Although I am not a fan of asking people who are visiting to take their shoes off, this is always an option.
Make sure you have everything you need before you leave your home in the morning, this prevents hurrying back in the house once you have your shoes on.
Once a month I clean and buff my floors with a commercial floor cleaner. It gets dirt, grime, salt and sand out of the spaces between my hardwood floors, it is also great for tile, stone and vinyl floors.
